Food Prep

Typically we don't spend a whole lot of time packing for our time on the road. There are always odds and ends that need done at home before leaving for a long period of time, but the packing itself doesn't take long and usually ends up being kind of a last minute thing. One of the biggest projects that needs done before each trip is food prep!  We cook a lot of our own meals on the road and since there isn't a whole lot of kitchen space in the bus, anything we have done ahead of time is a huge blessing!

Right now we are getting ready to be in Iowa for the next three weeks at the Old Threshers Reunion and Family Camp. Some of our married siblings are able to come to Old Threshers again this year (which we are super excited about!) so we've been spending a lot of time in the kitchen trying to make sure we bring enough food for everyone. In one day we made dozens of cookies, bean burritos, Runzas (a Nebraska food) 20lb of grilled hamburgers, a couple batches of granola, lots of chicken, hummus, and I don't remember what else.

Then the next day ,our neighbor called and said she has an apple tree full of apples she can't use. So Mom, Alaythia and Charissa picked them and everyone jumped in and helped turn them all into homemade applesauce. Hours later we had about 60 quarts happily canned and a whole bunch of dishes to do! We are really grateful for the blessing and variety of food and the many hands to help get things done.

Happy Anniversary

Dad & Mom celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on August 16th! Since it was also Ruth's birthday I posted an update on her life, but I thought y'all wouldn't mind a few old pictures of Dad and Mom to celebrate this beautiful occasion. And the words are lyrics to a song that was sung at their wedding.

I could never promise you on just my strength alone
That all my life I'd care for you, and love you as my own

I've never known the future, I only see today
Words that last a lifetime would be more than I could say

But the love inside my heart today is more than mine alone
It never changes, it never fails, never seeks it's own

And by the God who gives it, and who lives in me and you
I know the words I speak today are words I'm going to do

And so I stand before you now for all to hear and see
I promise you in Jesus' name the love He's given me

And through the years on earth and as eternity goes by
The life and love He's given us are never going to die

And so I stand before you now for all to hear and see
I promise you in Jesus' name the love He's given me

And through the years on earth and as eternity goes by
The life and love He's given us are never going to die

Happy Anniversary Dad & Mom!
We love you!!

"As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love."

Ruth

Happy Birthday Ruth!!!
Here's a quick update on where Ryan and Ruth are at right now...

Life with littles tends to be very busy, but it has been so fun to watch how Ryan and Ruth take care of their two boys! They recently bought a house in western Nebraska which is really exciting!!! Except that we terribly miss having them close. The house is a fixer upper so they are busy transforming it into their home and we are looking forward to making a trip out soon to help!

Baby #3 is arriving in just over 4 months and the guessing game has commenced as to whether it's a boy or girl.

Between work, everyday life, working on the house, time with friends and family, and host of other things, there are plenty of things to keep Ryan and Ruth busy. It has been amazing to watch the journey God has brought them on thus far and we look forward to what He has in store for their future.

We love y'all!!

This Week

Getting back from a trip there is always a lot of unpacking, cleaning and laundry that happens. It's the behind the scenes work that is very necessary before heading out on the road again! And Elizabeth has become extremely fast at whipping things into shape.

The day after we made it home we headed out to western Nebraska to finish the last irrigation job for the spring season. I don't think irrigation jobs have ever gone this late! We are grateful to have the last job completed! At least until Fall season when it starts all over again.

It was in a beautiful location! We enjoyed gorgeous sunsets, wildflowers and lots of wildlife, including a rattle snake!

Then it was home to enjoy the Seward County Fair!!! We weren't able to spend a lot of time out there this year, but it was fun to catch a little bit of the festivities. Dad and Mom moved into Seward County after they were married 39 years ago and we've lived in the same area ever since. We love being able to be a part of this community!

And I will praise Your name forever and ever."

Lake Itasca

Another year at the Lake Itasca Family Music Festival has come and gone! We are currently low on sleep!  I don't have a whole lot of pictures, because it was such a busy weekend for us.  However, it was a really good weekend, and we were so blessed to be able to be a part of it again this year!

The first morning there we woke up early and took a quick walk to the headwaters of the Mississippi River. Other than the tons of mosquitos, it was BEAUTIFUL!

I'll do another post later about the Storybook Hour that we put on with some of our friends. This year we brought more costumes and props than ever before.  We had to make several trips from the trailer to the stage, but I think we used everything we brought, and it was really special to see the drama come to life!!

We always enjoy helping fill a few shifts at the Snack Shack making all sorts of ice cream treats!

We also enjoyed the opportunity to share about what God has done in our lives through music!!
If you'd like to see more information or photos from Lake Itasca Family Music Festival you can check out their FaceBook page or website.  We highly recommend putting it on your bucket list!

I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High."

Lake Itasca Prep

Every year we lead a Children's Storybook hour at the Lake Itasca festival! We always put together a drama that is based on the life of a Christian in history that had a big impact for the gospel, complete with costumes and music! And we memorize some scripture and sing songs. It is a lot of fun and we are so grateful for the friends who help us pull it all together.

With the festival being this weekend we've been in a flurry of activity trying to get everything ready! We have the drama written and people are memorizing lines. But there are a lot of other pieces that we've been pulling together for this year's festival. Sorting costumes, boxing up props, and painting backdrops!

Our sunroom has turned into painting gallery with Mom and Elizabeth making all sorts of creations.

We are praying that what is shared will be a blessing and encouragement to the people that would come and are so excited to see how God brings everything together!!
