Family Camp

This was our thirteenth year co-hosting a Family Bible Camp with the Bontragers and more recently, the Bowers. It has been amazing to see the changes over the years and yet some things never change! Each year just keeps getting better and it is always amazing to hear the stories at the end of the week of what God did.

Because the camp has been so full the last several years we actually did two different camps over the course of two weeks so that more families could come. By the end of the two weeks we were all pretty exhausted, but oh, so encouraged! The conversations, the teaching, the games, the preaching, the time to laugh together, work together and play together was so special! Here are some pictures from the two weeks.

Nathanael with some friends.

Setting up a bunch of hammocks was one of the first activities so that we could enjoy them over the next two weeks. It was always quite amusing to watch people get in and out of the high ones.

Dad preached every evening on the theme passage.

Alaythia with another Alaythia!
It is pretty rare for her to meet someone with the same name.

Nathanael and I taught the Bible memory verse. This year it was Psalms 127!

We had a competition for each memory verse to add a fun challenge!

It is always fun to catch up with old friends and make new ones!

One afternoon we play a game that is called Mighty Mighty Scoop Noodle Challenge. Most people have never heard of it before, but it is kind of like Capture The Flag on steroids. It is a ton of fun and literally any age can play!

Lots of smiles!

And the crew from week 2!

And our crew!

Who's That

A special new addition to this years Old Threshers experience was the creation and appearance of a band called "Who's That".

Since Andrew moved down to Florida the guys haven't had as many opportunities to play their instruments together. So someone came up with the idea of creating a "band" to play at Old Threshers that would just be a relaxed and fun "jam session".

It ended up being a ton of fun!! They played three times over the event and ended up getting requests to play at other events later in the year.

They played some favorite bluegrass tunes, old hymns and a few old love songs.

I don't know if Who's That from who knows where will make any more appearances, but for that weekend we all thoroughly enjoyed it!

Baby Wyatt

Getting to meet Wyatt for the first time was such a treat! Not only that, but we got to spend 10 days with him!! Lets just say that he didn't spend a whole lot of time in the carseat.

Since this was his first time at Old Threshers we tried to give him a proper welcome by showing him all of our favorite places. He won't remember it, but it was fun to take him around! Thankfully he had sound blocking headphones to cut out some of the loud noises that are there.

If you weren't on stage singing then you were probably standing off to the side holding him or waiting your turn!

Taking him on his first steam train ride!

"But the mercy of the Lord is from everlasting to everlasting on those who fear Him,
And His righteousness to children's children."

Random Moments

There were so many pictures from Old Threshers I was having a hard time picking which ones to post on the blog! Something that I think each of us are so grateful for is the time invested in family relationships. Sadly, in our culture brothers and sisters don't really know how to get along with eachother. Let alone being best friends! But the time spent working together, talking together, playing together and just living everyday life together is something that we treasure! So I hope you don't mind this long post full of smiling faces, because for 5 days we were together!! And that tends to bring a lot of smiles.

Old Threshers

Old Threshers 2018 is in the books!
It was a packed full week! Three of the married couples came back which was such a blast and we ended up singing 12 times in 5 days. I think everyone enjoyed a good nap the day after it was over!

Because it is such a special part of our year and because so many of us were together I end up getting an over abundance of pictures. Hopefully you won't mind me sharing them with you in the next couple of posts! When we aren't busy singing on the grounds we love walking around and watching how people lived years ago. They have horse threshing demonstrations, steam tractors, gas engines and everything in-between!

Part of the fun of Old Threshers is the fact that this is our 18th consecutive year singing here! Although we came a few times even before that. In fact, Grandpa and Grandma brought Mom here when she was a little girl. There are so many friends that we only get to see at there that have literally watched us children "grow up" over the years.

They have a living history town called Log Village where you can watch people make soap, cook over an open fire, build things in the blacksmith shop and a host of other things. One of the nieces and nephews favorite parts is getting to make a rope.

Doris is in charge of bringing the music bands and she has been so fun to work with. There are always a lot of laughs when she is around! We are so grateful for their gracious invitation every year.

The last couple of years someone has blessed our family with enough tickets for all of us to enjoy riding the steam train together. I think everyone's favorite part is watching the young ones faces light up!

This year we ended up getting the bus stuck in our camping spot, so someone had to come pull us out. Thankfully, there are always plenty of tractors around to do the job! We are already looking forward to next year!!

"We give thanks to You, O God, we give thanks!
For Your wondrous works declare that Your name is near."
