This One, Life-Changing Discipline

Do you make New Year's Resolutions? Goals?

I don't know about you, but the beginning of a new year always feels like a fresh, new start. The mistakes and failures of the previous year are behind us and the future stretches out in hopefully anticipation.

2016 was an interesting year for our family with many highs and lows. We had some exhilarating mountaintops and some uniquely challenging valleys. The Lord has stretched us in new ways and made us once again recognize our daily dependence on His grace.

And now, as we look ahead into 2017, we'd like to share with you the most essential, critical, and rewarding daily discipline that has impacted every member of our family. It has been the action step which has enabled our family to grow together in harmony and forgiveness for over 36 years. It has steadily nudged us to shift our focus from selfishness to humility.

Are you curious yet?!

Get in the Word!! Yes. That's it!

Individually and as a family. Choosing to read, study, memorize, and meditate on God's Word has completely revolutionized our lives. It is the gateway through which we deepen our knowledge and love for God. It teaches us to walk in the 'way everlasting', investing our lives in eternal purposes. (Ps 139:24) It comforts. It instructs. It corrects. It strengthens. (Hebrews 4:12)

And this year we're embarking on a new dynamic for our Bible times. We're going to be reading through the Bible together in 2017! Each person will be using the same reading plan individually for their daily devotions starting January 1st. We're excited to track each other's progress and compare notes and insights as we move through the Scriptures together.

Have you considered reading through the Bible in 2017!? Would you join us?!

It only takes 12 minutes each day.
Reading 3 - 4 chapters.

You can find yearly Bible plans on YouVersion.com, Biblica, or, there are a variety of charts to print out here.

Do you already have a Bible reading plan? What works for you? We'd love to hear!

This year our family in embarking on a new reading plan -- reading through the entire Bible as a family! One of our recent discoveries has been the A LAMP UNTO app -- which allows you to create a customized Bible reading plan. But the BEST part?! You can invite friends to join your reading plan and track each other's progress all year long! How great is that?!

So invite a few friends!

Print out a plan or download the app!

And ask the Lord to teach you from HIS Word in 2017!

Is this all new for you? Do you have questions -- or don't know where to start?! Please email usinfo@wissmannfamily.com or contact us via Facebook!! We always love to hear from you and would welcome the chance to be in touch with you personally!

"For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword,
piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow,
and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."
Hebrews 4:12

My most common Bible reading plan is reading one chapter per day of either English or German and reading the Sunday's Gospel and Epistle for the whole week of the opposite language. Then I switch it around when I am through reading the Bible (it takes me about 1 1/2 to 2 years). Knowing a different language definitely helps in understanding certain verses of the Bible.
