Patriotic Festivities

Hannah's festive decor
Every year our hometown decks in its finery to celebrate Independence Day. The population of 6,500 swells to crowds of 60,000 as the festivities from sunrise to the grand finale firework display.
We were thrilled to have our whole family together for the weekend as we took in the activities and had our annual opportunity to share in concert. Here are a few photos from the day:

A recent trend in our family has been long-distance running. Even Dad has been getting in on the action, jogging around 2 miles most days. So several of the group decided to enter the 2-mile or 10K Fun Run which began at the crack of dawn. It was a lovely morning for running -- and for cheering each runner as they came across the finish line.

Dad's finish.

Matthias entered the bubble blowing contest.

The small-town parade is always an afternoon highlight.

...especially for the little ones!

Watching the parade.

And all worn out afterwards!

The kitchen crew.

As always, the opportunity to share with our hometown community is always a genuine treat. Many of these dear folks have watched us literally grow up. This was our 16th year as part of the city celebration.

Behind the stage moments.

"Oh, give thanks to the LORD!
Call upon His name;
Make known His deeds among the peoples!"

1 Chron 16:18

Looks so fun! I love Hannah's decorations! As a family we also run together, and we call our 4th of July run, our "freedom run". :) Did Susanna get a medal? Congrats! :)
