Prayer Request

This weekend we have a unique opportunity:
We'll go through intense security into a world not seen by many.

But very known and close to God's heart.

Tonight and in the coming days we covet your prayers as we'll be sharing in three prison facilities here in Colorado. Although we've been behind bars many times, each experience is unique and we go fully recognizing our inadequacies. We're in full dependance on the Lord's mercy & grace. Would you join us in interceding for these services?!

We pray for open, receptive hearts.
An empowering of the Holy Spirit.
A purity of message as we share the HOPE and LOVE found in Christ.

We look forward to sharing the Lord's work in the coming days! Thank you for joining us.

And you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.

Colorado Hiking

"How great Thou art, How great Thou art!"

The words of this famous hymn echo in my heart as I look back at all the breathtaking sights we witnessed yesterday. It's impossible to grasp or communicate the majesty, splendor, and creativity of our Creator.

Photos can't capture it.
Words can't express it.
Creation proclaims it in a stunning way -- yet as only a hint of His glory.

Experiences like our 14,148 foot mountain climb yesterday brought it to the forefront of our minds in vivid color. Having a free day in the beautiful state of Colorado, our friends guided us to the summit of our first 14er. (14,000+ mountain)

Up before the crack of dawn, we packed our gear and headed out:

We hiked for hours.
Photo-worthy moments all around us.
How does one hike and capture it all simultaneously?!

O Lord, my God, when I in awesome wonder,

Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,

I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,

Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed.

When thro' the woods and forest glades I wander,

And hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees.

When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur,

And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze.

Then sings my soul, my Savior, God, to Thee:
How great Thou art!

What's the point of finally reaching snow in July without an all-out snowball fight?!
Yes, this happened!

Charissa was a trooper.
At 8 years old, she climbed like a pro!

Smiles from the summit.
We made it!

Another of the treasures we discovered were lovely and unique wildflowers.
Such vibrant, delicate blossoms.

Thank you to the Johnson family for making this possible for us!

"You are great and do marvelous deeds:
You alone are God.

A Darling Equation

With grateful hearts, we're thrilled to share that the Lord is adding a precious little one to our family:

Alan & Rachel look forward to welcoming their baby in January 2016!

1 + 1 = 3

"For this child I prayed,
and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him."

A Day of Sweet Corn

The Nebraska summer is officially upon us -- and with it, the yearly arrival of row after row of sweet corn. Can't you just smell the heat and sweetness of summer in these photos?!

This week we loaded up the pickup with our annual harvest and spent a full day in teamwork and production -- moving the mountain from the garden into our freezers.

With the various traveling and touring we have planned in the coming weeks, we're so thankful for God's timing! The corn was ready during our final week at home.

Many hands make light work, and that was certainly the case with this project.

Sunshine smiles

Abi and the kids were able to join us for part of the process. Charissa and Joanna were a big help with cool the corn after blanching and Asher helped husk.

Finally, we moved the production into our garage which has far more space than our kitchen -- and is much easier for cleanup afterward.

What a bountiful harvest!

What's producing in your gardens these days?!

" I will give you rain in its season,
the land shall yield its produce,
and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit."

Sisters Weekend

A bond of the heart. A kindred friendship.

And all the fun, quirky moments that are inevitable when getting a whole gaggle of Wissmann girls in one place for more than 24 hours!

Yes, as we've grown and life has brought many new changes and adjustments to our family life, we're learning the importance of being intentional to encourage one another and be actively involved in each other's lives. Time flies so quickly and we're rarely all together with time to simply share hearts.

So we sisters decided to sponsor a 'sisters weekend'. We all traveled to our grandparent's house to spend a couple days together.

We thought a street vender selling gourmet cupcakes was too good an opportunity to pass up!

We did lots of hiking. Northeastern Iowa is filled with hidden treasures and we had a blast every afternoon exploring.

The bluffs near the Mississippi are covered in trees, waterfalls, and trails.

This was called 'Bridal Veil Falls'.

Action shot with the self-timer.

Mission accomplished! We hiked a mile up the side of the bluff for a fantastic view of the Mississippi River.

Afterward, we visited the quaint, historic town of McGregor.

So many unique, quaint shops.

The 'Paper Moon' was our favorite:
Three entire floors of unique gifts.

Another day we visited the beautiful Dunnings Springs near Decorah.

Of course, one can't simply spectate a view such as this. We had to get in on the action.

The breathtaking falls.

And lastly, we explored an ice cave.
As we approached the opening, it literally felt as if a freezer door had been left open. A great way to cool off on a hot day!

Other highlights of the weekend included:

Reading and discussing a book together by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Working out & jogging each morning.
Touring a fish hatchery.
Laughing and telling stories with Grandpa & Grandma.
Devouring Grandma's delicious cooking & helping in her kitchen.
Daily raiding the raspberry bed for fresh, warm berries.
Encouraging each other with meaningful notes.
A big bowl of ice cream (Grandpa's favorite) every evening.

We're so thankful for this precious gift of sisterhood. As the years quickly pass, may we never fail to intentionally 'consider one another in order to stir up love and good works'!
Hebrews 10:24

Due to a schedule conflict, Abi wasn't able to join us.
Next year!
