Happy 8th Birthday Charissa!

Charissa's ministry of choice:

Steve Green is constantly looking for ways to encourage and strengthen children in the Lord Jesus. There are some things that kids are capable of choosing for themselves, but the more foundational choices that result in godly character must be made for them. These include providing them with resources that will nurture their faith in God. Nothing surpasses the treasure of hiding God's Word in our hearts. Includes such fun songs as "Do Not Worry," "We Love Him," and "The Fruit of the Spirit."

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

Elizabeth's ministry of choice:

Amazima Ministries by Katie Davis

At the heart of Amazima is a desire to glorify Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior by loving and caring for the poor, orphaned, abandoned, and hopeless. We show our love for God by obeying His command to care for the least of His people. Our work in Uganda includes relief work (keeping people alive) to development work (helping people live better, more productive and satisfying lives)—all while sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ at every turn in our journey.

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Happy 6th Anniversary, Josiah and Abi!

The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing."

Family Camp

We've just wrapped up our annual week at family camp in Lansing, Iowa. What a great week! We were at camp-capacity this year with 40 families and quite a few singles joining us for 5 days of teaching, music, hands-on learning, and fellowship.

What a joy it is to uplift each other as families! Each morning and evening we'd gather for group teaching and panel discussions. Here is a smattering of random pictures from the week:

Dad taught the keynote sessions each evening.

These boys were in lego-heaven!

Each morning we had a time for the men and ladies to learn from each other. Later in the day, our girls led a physical fitness workshop (something we all greatly enjoy) and had several eager ladies in participation.

Time with friends is always a highlight!

And the climax of our week was the first-ever soap-box derby. The guys designed and built their cars and on the final day we had timed races. Tough competition!!

The unfinished cars all lighted up.

The starting line.

Multi-generational spectators.

Our family representative in the race.

Charissa preferred her bike over the soap-box car.

The race officials

Conferring over race times.

Our grandparents came to watch the action!

Changing out wheels

And the final race was a 'dad's only' competition!

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some,
but exhorting one another,
and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
Hebrews 10:24-25

Random Moments

Living in a big family has an abundance of great moments:

Random bursts of laughter.
Looks of mischievous understanding.
Good natured teasing -- which is quickly dished back.
A deep, settled feeling of love and belonging.

Those of you whom we've met in concert may have even gathered this fact from our times on stage. Silent communication often happens at a second's glance!

So this post is nothing profound. Just a conglomeration of random family moments captured in time. Perhaps it will cause you to look around for those often-overlooked, priceless moments in your life.

Because life has great moments.

He brought out His people with joy,

His chosen ones with gladness.
Psalm 105:43

To Every Generation

"That the generation to come might know them,

The children who would be born,
That they may arise and declare them to their children..."
Psalm 78:6

To every generation.

Grandpas. Grandmas.
Dads. Moms.
Children. Cousins. Nieces. Nephews.

The love that powerfully weaves itself through our family interactions is not merely for personal security and benefit. For love, by its nature, is unselfish.

Each relationship granted in the precious family bond comes with opportunity and responsibility. It comes with the reality that we don't live in a vacuum. Rather, our life choices, commitments, and attitudes naturally impact and rub off on those closest to us.

It causes us to realize that life is not about 'me'. It is about letting Christ live through us with the purpose of blessing others. It comes with the sobering realization that precious little feet are pitter-patering in our path.

How worthy the investment! How great the opportunity!

May we grasp the potential in each moment. Investing God's Word and His genuine care into those closest and dearest in our lives.

That they may declare them to their children...the next generation.

"Telling to the generation to come the praises of the LORD,

And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done."
Psalm 78:4

"...That they may set their hope in God,
And not forget the works of God,
But keep His commandments."
Psalm 78:7
