Lake Itasca

The Lake Itasca Family Music Festival is a highlight of each summer. This year was no exception. With so many great musicians and dynamic families, we always greatly look forward to the weekend-long event. The weather was sunny and anticipation was in the air as the large buses rolled in carrying the various bands -- along with oodles of campers, vans, and other vehicles.

Our family had the privilege of plugging in to various aspects of the weekend. Here is a glimpse:

Susanna helped with the banjo workshop.

Dad shared a session geared around family ministry. His title this year was, "Called to Serve". He shared specific Scriptures and practical thoughts about the journey he and Mom have walked in an effort to cultivate a heart for serving within our family. It is a trait we continue to strive towards.  It is easy in family ministry to develop the mindset that others should serve those 'on stage'. But how much we miss if we're not the first to be willing to volunteer for the un-noticed, behind the scenes duties!!

Dad has often told us that if our hearts and lives are not matching with what we're sharing on stage, then we'd best sit down. Christ came to serve. And He is our primary example and role-model.

It was good to be again reminded that our ultimate calling is to cultivate our personal
relationship with the Lord to and walk as He walked.

Stephen helped lead the mandolin workshop

Elizabeth helped with the guitar workshop.

Hannah and Alaythia helped with the fiddle workshop.

We also got to spend some time in one of our favorite little buildings on the grounds:
The Snack Shack!

Matthias and Ruth

And we were excited to share on the main stage a couple times over the weekend.

"The LORD reigns;
Let the peoples tremble!
He dwells between the cherubim;
Let the earth be moved!"

"The LORD is great in Zion,
And He is high above all the peoples."

"Let them praise Your great and awesome name—
He is holy."

"Exalt the LORD our God,
And worship at His footstool—
He is holy."

"You answered them, O LORD our God;
You were to them God-Who-Forgives,"
Verses from Psalm 99

Another highlight of the weekend was the Children's Storybook Theater...

Yes, we have an abundance of pictures. But they will have to be saved for another post. Stay tuned for more pictures soon!

These pictures are lovely. The music festival is certainly a highlight of our summer as well. What a joy it was to see your family again and be encouraged by your music! Thank you for your joyful, serving hearts. Praying for you all and also (as you requested) that you can finish your new CD in the next few months. :) Glory to God!
