CD Sale!

With boxes stacking up in our storage room, we've decided to hold an 'inventory reduction' sale! As the Lord has given us opportunity to record nine recordings, our 'family sound' has grown and changed since our first project in 2001. Time in the studio has stretched us and helped us to grow -- and we're encouraged to hear the music has been a blessing to homes across the country. It's as if God has taken our small 'loaves and fish' and multiplied them far beyond our dreams!

And now we've decided to sell out of our first three recordings. At $5 each, these will only be availible while supplies last! Also, cassettes are now $4 each. We pray these would be an encouragement to your family!

Come One, Come All!

The weekend has arrived! We are excited to again present the musical drama in both Seward and Omaha, Nebraska. The costumes are unpacked and made ready -- and the cast and crew are again preparing for their roles.

If you're within driving distance, we'd welcome you to join us for one [or both!] of the upcoming performances!

14905 Q St, Omaha, NE
Saturday, August 29 --7:00PM

Seward High School Auditorium
532 Northern Heights Dr, Seward, NE
Sunday, August 30 -- 6:30PM

We covet your prayers as we intercede for the Lord to do great and mighty things through these performances. May HE be glorified!

"I will give You thanks in the great assembly;
I will praise You among many people."
Psalm 35:18

Teamwork!

With the big weekend only a day away, we're in full preparation for the ministry opportunities in conjunction with the Musical. Because the Omaha performance, "Let Freedom Sing", is during the annual Millard Days festivities, our church decided to put together a float for the parade. During the parade we'll hand out invitations for the the evening performance.

So, last night we had great fun dusting off our float-making skills, rolling up our sleeves, -- and enjoying the teamwork!

The Project Continues...

...and after finishing the details in the studio this week, we're looking forward to sharing the completed project!

"Teach me Your way, O LORD; I will walk in Your truth;
Unite my heart to fear Your name.
I will praise You, O Lord my God, with all my heart,
And I will glorify Your name forevermore.
For great is Your mercy toward me!"
Psalm 86:11-13

It's that Season!

We enjoyed a couple delightful days last week with our grandparents -- and perfect timing, too! Their huge garden was in full swing, so we had lots of fun helping gather and process the fresh veggies! From huge buckets full of green beans, to wheelbarrows full of softball sized onions, and massive cabbages, the supply of produce seemed endless! Such fun!

Such huge cabbages! We're still trying to figure out the secrets to our grandparents wonderful garden year after year!

"The eyes of all look expectantly to You,
And You give them their food in due season."

Wisconsin Travels

What a blessed, jam-packed, encouraging, and challenging week it has been since I last blogged! Have you ever felt exhausted and exuberant at the same time?! [smile]

After the Family Music Festival last week, we had a very full several days in the great state of Wisconsin. To give you a quick synopsis of the flexibility in road life -- within a couple days last week, we had the following: Two community concerts, a prison service, a radio station interview, hours of travel each day, three visits to Walmart, a visit to the laundry mat, an evening of volleyball and fellowship, and several quiet mornings for family devotions, music practice and school.

We are often asked, "Do you LIKE traveling?!" Some see it as a glamorous, dream life, while others can't imagine the challenges of living, eating, sleeping with 13 people in a bus. It is certainly not a boring life! But wherever God calls someone to walk, there are both blessings and challenges. Blessings as we obey His voice, and challenges as we learn and grow and continually recognize our need for HIM!

And each new day gives opportunity to cry out for His grace.

Last Tuesday we experienced that as we had a very challenging and unusual prison service. When we arrived, we were greeted by the chaplain -- who was Buddhist and in full 'eastern' dress. Upon entering the prison, we had the most difficult time getting through security. It seemed roadblock upon roadblock was standing in the way for the service. With only those 18+ years allowed in the prison, we were already stretched with trying to piece together music with our small numbers. And with security delays, we were running short on time. Another opportunity to seek the Lord's mighty hand in our weaknesses!

We gathered for prayer as the men filled the bleachers. Feeling inadequate, but knowing God must have something special in store for the evening. And indeed -- after an hour of music, Dad started sharing from the Bible and they were on the edge of their seats, soaking in each word. As the gospel invitation was given, seventeen men responded, and eagerly listened as Dad briefly shared principles of growing in Christ. It was a rich evening as the Lord once again so obviously overshadowed our weaknesses.

Through our family's many years of living and loving the secluded 'country life' -- to the place God has us today -- it's humbling to see the same life lessons replayed. Seek the Lord. Abide in His Word. Learn to be faithful with the doors He's opened today. And rejoice in Him!

And He is truly able to do 'exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think!' [Eph 3:20]

"For the LORD God is a sun and shield;
The LORD will give grace and glory;
No good thing will He withhold
From those who walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts,
Blessed is the man who trusts in You!"
Psalm 84:11-12

29 Years Ago...

...was the beginning of 'happily ever after'!

Through the years of joys, smiles, struggles, laughter, tears, work and fun, you've shown us the beauty of truly becoming ONE!

We love you Dad and Mom!

Family Music Festival

As I sit here with my computer on the festival grounds, it almost seems quiet and deserted...a far cry from all the action and activity that took place here over the weekend! What a blessing it was to be a part of the 2009 Lake Itasca Family Music Festival! Despite the weather challenges, it was a very encouraging and uplifting weekend, spent with dozens of families. We enjoyed getting to visit with many of you dear blog readers, and cannot adequately express our gratitude for your encouragement and regular prayers for our family!

And now for a few pictures of the weekend...

Daddy taught a workshop entitled "Family Ministry Bootcamp", sharing Scriptures and principles that have helped to shape our family life and ministry over the years. There is such a need in our culture for godly families who truely love each other -- and love to serve together! We were encouraged by meeting dozens of families at the festival with this same desire.

Matthias and Stephen helped lead workshops for dobro and mandolin (respectively)

Sisters!!

Singing HIS Praises!

We also had the special treat of leading two activity sessions for the children at the festival. We pulled out an old "Prairie Bible Camp" skit and had so much fun with the kids!

Learning Colossians 2:6-7 with actions

Teaching the 'theme song'

And finally, the weekend was complete as we were able to hear one of our favorite music groups share in song and testimony! The Berge family is no longer traveling together due to Melanie and Mindy having their own homes now. But a reunion concert is always a huge treat! Fellowship is such a sweet thing, and along each family's journey I think God places special people to encourage and uplift as we press toward's His best. The Berges have certainly been that for us -- We love you guys!!

"And let us consider one another
in order to stir up love and good works,
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together,
as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another,
and so much the more as you see the Day approaching."
Heb 10:24-25

We're Here!

We pulled into Lake Itasca, MN last night -- home of the Family Music Festival. Our family is excited to be a part of the festival this year, as its organized by our dear friends -- the Berges -- who have been such a blessing to us over the years.

The next couple days will be filled with music, teaching sessions, jamming, and leading children's ministry times. Please do keep us in prayer! We'll look forward to sharing pictures and testimonies soon!

"But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name Be joyful in You."
Psalm 5:11

Sweet Corn!

Summer is in full swing here -- and with it, lots of yummy garden produce! We're so grateful to have a large garden this year! Our dinner table has recently been piled with fresh tomatos, cucumbers, peppers, ...and now, sweet corn! We spent yesterday putting up dozens of quarts of corn.

Our little helper!

Mmmmmmmmmm!

And lots and lots of cutting!

This year we also had the fun of freezing corn into little pint bags. Our family has LONG outgrown that cute little size, but with Bethany preparing to set up her own home, and Josiah and Abi living nearby, we had lots of fun with pints!

And the land that You gave to our fathers,
To eat its fruit and its bounty,
Here we are, servants in it!"
