The Trip Begins

...but never fear -- this isn't our new driver! [smile] She just loves to surprise Daddy by sitting in his spot!

And as of noon today, we're headed out for 6 weeks in the northeastern states and Ontario. The bus is in working order and we haven't discovered anything important that we've left behind, so our focus has settled on the days and weeks ahead. We'll look forward to seeing many of you -- and do covet your prayers. May our hearts be in tune to the Lord.

Specific prayers for safety, personal quiet times, and effectiveness in our times of sharing would be so appreciated. Thank you -- seriously, we're so grateful for your notes, comments, and prayers as you co-labor with us!

We'll look forward to updating you as the miles roll by. Stay tuned....

"If ye be raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God." Colossians 3:1

Can our baby already be one year old?! How quickly the year has flown from then till now. It has been so special to watch her grow over the past year. From learning to roll over, crawl, clap, and all those delightful 'baby moments', we are just so thankful!! Each day is a new adventure as she discovers new abilities and works on her walking skills.

Our prayer for you, Charissa, is that you continue to grow -- not only physically but in the knowledge and grace of our Savior! Hugs and kisses on your special day!

"We give thank to You, O God, we give thanks!
For Your wonderous works declare
that Your name is near." Psalm 75:1

Little known facts about Charissa --
  • In her one year of life, she's visited 34 states and Canada
  • Distinguished herself by being the earliest 'Wissmann walker' at 11 months
  • Is terrified of mesh cup holders on lawn chairs
  • Has learned to clap, blow kisses, wave, and an assortment of other baby motions
  • Loved her first taste of ice cream -- but thinks garlic is altogether too potent
  • Is our first-rate table setter (with a little help!)
  • Has probably had more photographs taken than most children have in their first 10 years!

We love you, Charissa -- you bring each of us so much joy!

These evenings at home...

...are the stuff memories are made of!

(Love ya Daddy!)

Happy 18th Birthday Elizabeth!

We'd like to to say our warmest and 'loving-est' wishes on your birthday, Elizabeth! You are a treasure to our home. From your servant's heart; working to make our home and bus a peaceful place, to your joyful spirit -- we are so thankful for you! I love the creative ways you consistently fashion the younger girls' hair each time we sing and how you encourage them in the Lord. I love to watch you grow from our energetic tom-boy to an energetic young lady -- and with all those brothers around you to care for and grow with! May the coming year be one of even more deepening of your tender walk with the Lord as you become the woman He created you to be. We love you dearly!

"The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy. Now the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace." James 3:17

Little known facts about Elizabeth --
  • Was born so late in the morning (home birth), that the midwife's assistant occupied little Bethany and Andrew with suckers for breakfast
  • Had the bluest eyes until the age of three when they started turning hazel/brown
  • Started her tree-climbing adventures at age 3
  • Is the guys' first pick for family football
  • Doesn't like carbonated drinks
  • As a little girl, she dreamed of marrying Andrew when she grew up!
  • She's currently the only teen girl in the Wissmann family

Join us in wishing our Elizabeth a happy birthday!?!

If We Fail to Praise...

As I travel through this land, all the beauty I behold--
From the glory of the mountains, to the mysteries untold...

...How I marvel at the wonders that my God has set in place --
I'm reminded He's the only One deserving of my praise!

Let the rocks cry out if I don't lift my voice,
All creation shout the glories of His name!

Lift your eyes to the sky, see His banner lifted high,
Praise the name of Jesus Christ.

...Lest the rocks cry out!

When I sit back and consider all the lilies of the field,
Hear the crashing of the thunder; see the tiny things revealed...

...Then my heart can't help rejoicing that the Father's master plan,
Saw eternity within my soul before all time began!!

Let the rocks cry out if I don't lift my voice,
All creation shout the glories of His name...

Lift your eyes to the sky, see His banner lifted high,
Praise the name of Jesus Christ...

...Lest the rocks cry out!

"...the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying:

"Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"

And some of the Pharisees called to Him from the crowd, "Teacher, rebuke Your disciples."

But He answered and said to them,

"I tell you that if these should keep silent, the stones would immediately cry out."
Luke 19:37-40

As Time Passes

Well, a few of the projects we've tackled this week are close to completion. Check here for the story of the younger girls' room makeover. We've also re-done the other girls' room, but as it's still 'under construction' as I type, the pictures will have to wait until a later date. [smile]

School was also in full swing this week, with a few new curriculum books this year and each morning devoted to our traditional 'school opening'. How refreshing it is to have a consistent routine; getting a good head-start on each subject!

And just now the bus just pulled up to load for a weekend in central Iowa. Our hearts are truly filled with gratitude for the opportunity to gather from a busy week and focus on the goodness of our God. Aren't you glad He gives us one day in seven -- set aside to worship Him, rest, and re-focus?

God is so good.

"Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might.
Nor let the rich man glory in the his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this --
That he understands and knows Me."
Jeremiah 9:23-24

A Mighty Longing

"I want deliberately to encourage this mighty longing after God. The lack of it has brought us to our present low estate. The stiff and wooden quality about our religious lives is a result of our lack of holy desire. Complacency is a deadly foe of all spiritual growth. Acute desire must be present or there will be no manifestation of Christ to His people. He waits to be wanted. Too bad that with many of us He waits so long, so very long, in vain."
--A. W. Tozer

"Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness
for they shall be filled."
Matthew 5:6

Well, if my sister had a 'random blogging' month back in August, then September must be my turn. My apologies to all you dear friends who faithfully check here hoping for an update -- or even a new picture -- but to no avail!

To fill you in on our 'recent happenings' -- Yes, we are home! After our arrival last Tuesday morning, we have been enjoying school routine as well as a few extra projects.....

Due to our little sister on the verge of leaving the baby crib, we have been searching high and low for a double bunk bed for the girls' room. We quickly discovered this was no small task! Thus, the carpenter of the family (Stephen) has gathered his tools to build the needed frame. These days we often head downstairs to check his progress. As it looks now, we might be in our new beds by the end of the week!

Ruth has recently aquired a new kitchen helper. Mm-m-m-m!

Being home allows a little more time to work on larger school projects, such as essays and research projects.

One more photo of ramdom-ness...With the joy of a friend's wedding last weekend, Hannah and Susanna were asked to serve by handing out programs and 'rice' packs. The Lord gave us the perfect fabric at $1/yard to sew them dresses to coordinate. Nothing like finishing the final seam the 'morning of'! (smile)

And enough random postings for one day. Maybe I'll have more for tomorrow...

Old Threshers

It seems hardly possible this was our seventh year singing at the Old Thresher's Reunion!! It has truely become a 'reunion' for us as we are able to touch base with many people we see only once every year. The weather was perfect this year with record crowds pouring into town and enjoying the many family-friendly events. We're grateful for the opporutunities the Lord brought to share through each of the eight concerts we were scheduled over the weekend.

As a picture is said to be worth a thousand words, I'll let Bethany's photography give you a glimpse of the week...

Singing --

We had the special treat of Josiah joining us for the weekend!

"Oh, clap your hands,

all you peoples!
Shout to God
with a voice of triumph!
For the Lord Most High
is awesome;
He is a great King
over all the earth.
Sing praises to God,
Sing praises!
For God is the King of all the earth."
Psalm 47:1-2,6-7

We pray that the seeds of God's Word will continue to grow in the hearts of all who heard!

Grandparents --

...and hugs...

...and more smiles!

Family Times --
Sister joys!
"Thank you, God, for family!"

One of those 'sit-in-the-bus-and-chat' moments.

"God has a purpose for each one of us, a work for each one to do, a place for each one to fill, and influence for each one to exert, a likeness to His dear Son for each one to manifest -- and then, a place for each one to fill in His holy temple." --Arthur Hall

"Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
